The Nationally Award Winning Helmsman's House is an expansive two-bedroom, two bathroom Federation farmhouse re-imagined by designer Andrew Blaxland, that captures glorious views of Cygnet Bay.
Double glazing, carpet where it counts and a Chimineé Philippe double-sided wood fire will keep you snug in changing seasons; while opulent bathrooms — each with a bath and underfloor heating plus walk-in shower — soft beds, deep couches and a cook’s kitchen (with a Nespresso machine, cookbooks, Le Crueset dutch oven, sharp knives plus a rare 1907 Metters Revolving Bush Pantry) plus 200 acres of a working farm to explore, will melt stress from body and soul.
The fridge and pantry are generously stocked with local, fresh, seasonal produce plus an array of breakfast cereals, oils, flours, sugars, jams, local honey, sauces, herbs (fresh and dried) plus spices and much more than all the basics.
And, you'll also find a bottle of regional wine (or Tasmanian bubbles), local cider/Tasmanian beer (your choice), farmhouse butter, artisanal bread, award winning organic bacon, very local milk, regional cheeses and unexpected treats waiting for you plus a complimentary decanter of port on the mantlepiece. And Tim Tams!
A huge limestone-flagged terrace with gazebo - accessed by French doors facing the bay – is ideal for sundowner drinks; and a “folly” in the garden is that perfect place to meditate, read or just dream the days away embraced by hills, water and sky.
Free wi-fi, Netflix, a Bose sound system, games and a library of well-chosen books will add to the pleasure of just being inside, however Helmsman’s is walking distance to Cygnet - 1.2 kms - with its great cafes, food and bi-weekly produce and artisans market (see "Things to see and do" under "About" in the home page menu)
And when you come home, you’ll see the moon rise behind your own hills & watch the stars wheel above your head (and, in winter, maybe the great Southern Lights will grace the sky over the bay).
So, snuggle up beside the Chimineé Philippe fire and enjoy all that the Helmsman's House has to offer.
Pictures from the owner’s collection and interesting furniture make Helmsman’s House a design & lifestyle inspiration but, as with “The Writers House”, “The Helmsman’s House” has been designed adults-only accommodation (and it's best to hire a car to explore the region, also.).
